Centre for Health Protection Health Guidelines - Maintain good personal hygiene

health tips

1. Wearing a surgical mask by sick people can prevent the spread of respiratory viruses. Therefore, it is very important for people with symptoms (even mild ones) to wear a surgical mask.

2. Wear a surgical mask when riding public transportation or in crowded places. Proper mask wearing is crucial, including maintaining hand hygiene before and after putting on and removing the mask.

3. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose.

4. Keep your hands clean frequently, especially before touching your mouth, nose or eyes; before eating; after using the toilet; after touching public facilities such as handrails or door handles; or when your hands are contaminated by respiratory secretions, such as after coughing or sneezing.

5. Wash your hands with liquid soap and water, rub them together for at least 20 seconds, rinse with water, and dry with a paper towel. After washing your hands, avoid touching the faucet directly (for example, wrap the faucet with a paper towel before turning it off).

6. If hand washing facilities are not available, or if hands are not visibly soiled, using a 70% to 80% alcohol-based hand rub is also an effective method.

7. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when sneezing or coughing. Do not spit or litter. Wrap spit with a tissue and discard used tissues in a covered trash can. Wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.

8. Pay attention to hygiene when using the toilet. Close the toilet seat before flushing to avoid spreading germs.

9. If you develop respiratory symptoms, you should wear a surgical mask, refrain from work or school, avoid going to crowded places, and seek medical advice as soon as possible.

10. Generally speaking, the use of N95 respirators in the community is not recommended for the general public as proper donning and removal of N95 respirators requires special training. Improper use can increase the risk of infection due to insufficient protection and contamination.

11. If you are feeling unwell, avoid going to crowded public places with poor ventilation.
